Application Process

Basic Qualifications for Entry into the Program:

The minimum requirements for the Ventura County Electrical Apprenticeship Program include the following:

  1. You must be a minimum of 18 years old at the time of application
  2. You must have a valid driver’s license at the time of application
  3. You must show evidence that you have either:
  1. Graduated High School
  2. Completed GED Requirements
  3. Earned an Associate's, Bachelor's, Master’s Degree, or higher
  1. You must show evidence that you have either completed:
  1. One year (two-semesters) of Algebra, or higher, while in High School
  2. One Semester of Algebra, or higher, while in College
  3. The NJATC Online-Tech Math Program (available at http://www.njatc.utk.edu/ )

Minimum requirements #3 and #4 can be waived if you have been working for an electrical construction contractor and can provide documentation that you have accumulated 4000 hours or more of experience. Documentation must consist of payroll and/or tax records.

Applicants who have served in the US Military will be required to submit a complete DD-214. For those Veterans accepted into our apprenticeship, the VCJATC is a GI Bill Approved Training Program.

If you meet the basic requirements, you will be scheduled to take the Electrical Training Alliance (etA) Aptitude Test Battery. This test consists of reading comprehension and algebra. Information regarding this exam can be found here.

If you obtain a qualifying score on the aptitude test, you will be scheduled for an interview with the Ventura County Electrical Apprenticeship Committee.

Based on your interview and a review of your qualifications, you will receive an overall ranking. Your name will be placed on the eligibility list for two years. As new positions with the apprenticeship program become available, applicants may receive an offer of apprenticeship based on their ranking on the eligibility list.

If you are selected to receive an offer of apprenticeship, you will be required to submit to drug testing and or a background check.

Which Apprenticeship Program Should I apply To? Apprenticeship Programs are assigned a geographical area. The Ventura County Electrical JATC's jurisdiction is Ventura County California. Apprentices should live within the geographic area assigned to each apprenticeship program. How do I Apply? To apply for the Ventura County Electrical Apprenticeship Program, you must first complete an online application form and submit the required documentation. Your application and documentation will be evaluated to determine whether you meet the minimum requirements.

All 9 steps of the application must be completed and submitted with all required documentation prior to the application deadline of 4pm on March 29, 2024. Applications submitted incomplete or missing any of the required documentation will not be processed. 

If you do not already have a TradeSchool Ventura County Electrical Apprenticeship account, you will need to complete a short process to create one. Please allow the VCJATC up to seven business days to process your request for an application.
